Jerry Brown - Studio 305

selfportait

I share studio space with Deborah Horn and we are both oil Painters.  Some people have told me that my colors are intense or vivid and that my work is graphic, whatever that means, or that I am "all over the place".  I decided a long time ago to try not to make boring paintings and this may account for these comments.  I do not intend to change, except to continue to experiment and try new approaches.

I have shown my work all over the Tennessee Valley mainly in Huntsville, Decatur and Fayetteville.  Currently I am a member of the "Sanctuary Artists", a group of painters, photographers, potters, poets, story tellers and naturalists associated with the Goldsmith-Schiffman Nature Sanctuary.  The group exhibit "The Art of Nature" has been shown in Huntsville, Decatur, Guntersville and Gadsden and is now on display at the Alabama State Arts Council in Montgomery.

My work was accepted in the Red Clay Survey in 2000, and shown in the Huntsville Museum show "Local Color" in 2005.  I have won several awards in the Monte Sano Art Show including "Best of Show" in 2005 and First Place in 2008.

I mostly paint what I want to but will do commission work if the subject is interesting.
