Jodi has taken classes from local artists and has had five art classes at UAH over the years. In 2005, she was introduced to pastels in a figure-drawing workshop with Margaret Dyer, an internationally-known pastelist from Atlanta. Landscapes and still lifes in pastels have been her focus for the last two years. Currently, she’s learning a new style in oils on a portrait.

Jodi’s pastel landscapes have been described as “smooth, soothing and peaceful”. Unlike pastel artists who use a warm/cool technique with visible strokes, most of Jodi’s pastels use local color and are smooth and blended. Recently, she took a class from Robert Bean in oil painting to broaden her technical base, so she can add a looser style to chosen works.

Jodi has been in the Monte Sano Art Show for several years (and will participate this year) and she has been invited to participate in other shows, including the 2011 Eufaula, AL Art Show, where she and her husband jointly won 1st Place. Jodi was a featured artist for the Botanical Gardens Art Stroll this year. Her donation of a pastel landscape of the gardens will be auctioned this fall in their annual fundraiser.
