Monica Yother - Scraps
I love paper. When I am looking for inspiration for a design project, I can always find it while looking through sheets of handmade or even scrapbook paper. The textures, colors, patterns and weight of each sheet capture my attention the way some people (many people) are drawn to designer shoes. Lucky for me, paper is cheaper and easier to store.
This last weekend my daughter and I were here at the studio, and it dawned on me that I could use a growing stack of scrap bits of paper to cover a metal can I had been keeping for another project. Ok, I know this is not a work of art, but this is one of my favorite things right now because I had so much fun making it! It was a a little rainy outside, (I love being in this studio when it’s raining), I had finally brought some speakers down so I could listen to my music, had my favorite coffee and most of all my daughter was right there with me making this.
So yeah, it’s just a peanut can covered in scraps of paper, but that’s the thing about art; the experience of creating it is like magic.
