On July 8, Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment will host the second Red Clay Rejects Exhibit. The public is invited to come join the celebration at this one night only event and to shop the works in the exhibit.
So your work wasn’t accepted for the 2017 Red Clay Survey. Well I guess it’s time to put on your big girl or boy pants and deal with it. But on July 8th, you can let those pants sag and there’s no need to fret if the waistband snaps.
Never fear, Lowe Mill is here!
Who: Artists who applied and did not get accepted to the biannual Huntsville Museum of Art’s Red Clay Survey.
What: Red Clay Rejects: an exhibition of rejects. All applicants of the Red Clay Survey that were not juried into the exhibit are welcome to display their work. This is meant to be a playful gesture responding to the humility an artist must endure in the pursuit to have their work legitimized.
When: July 8 from 8pm to 10pm
Where: The Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment First Floor Connector
Why: The Red Clay Survey is only a sampling of art being created in the south. They receive 1,500 entries and only exhibit less than 100 pieces. We know a lot of great work is getting passed over and think it deserves to be seen somehow as this is such a subjective process. It’s a public service of sorts. The reception is open to the public and free to attend.
How: Anyone that has their rejection letter is welcome to exhibit. To enter work in the exhibit, artists should bring their rejection letter and a $5 entry fee and may show up to three pieces. Work will be accepted at the Lowe Mill Main Office Wednesday and Thursday, July 5-6, between noon and 6:00 PM. Lowe Mill will take a 40% commission on work sold at the event. Please email your titles and prices to Amy Mayfield no later than Wednesday, July 5. Artists may pick up work on July 8 between 9:30pm and 10pm.
