My mixed media pieces incorporate drawing, painting, and collage processes on a variety of surfaces. I am always curious as to how certain combinations of media will work on a new surface, and the experimentation with different media combinations always leads to a new discovery and methods for artistic expression. These surfaces include multiple types of wood, watercolor papers, and canvas.  I begin each new piece with a clear idea and goal, but I enjoy allowing the piece to evolve as I go. My research is essential to producing work that properly represents my subject matter.  After I lay the groundwork, I rely on my color management and creativity to mesh with the intellectual aspect to unify the work. Although each piece begins as a scientific structure, my use of creativity, color, and emotion adds a personal touch to the piece. I aim to elevate the structure so that it has more of an emotional impact, rather than just appearing as a scientific illustration.
