Summer Workshops Introduction to Painting

Fridays in June, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm June 4, 11, 18, 25 fee: $115 In this workshop we will explore the materials and techniques of oil painting. Through demonstrations and instruction you will learn color mixing, paint application and various techniques such as glazing, under paintings and dry brush. Working with simple still life imagery, you will learn to depict objects using oil paint. We will also cover the importance of successful compositions. Drawing experience needed.

Introduction to Drawing

Wednesday s in June, 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 fee: $95 In this workshop we will learn the fundamentals of drawing. We will start with contour line and then move into form and value. Working with simple still life imagery we will explore multiple drawing tools and techniques. This workshop will consist of demonstrations, instruction and hands on experience.

Figure/Portrait Drawing and Painting

Mondays in June, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm June 7, 14, 21, 28 fee: $115 In this intensive workshop, we will learn how to draw and paint the human figure and face. We will start with learning proportions and drawing with contour line and value. Then we will move to oil painting and color, learning how to accurately mix color. The first two sessions will be devoted to the face and the last two sessions will deal with the figure as a whole. Drawing and painting experience suggested. Note: This class will work with nude models. Also, there will be a model fee added to the class. This will change depending on the number of students enrolled.

Advanced Painting

Fridays in July, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm July 2, 9, 16, 23 fee: $115 This is a workshop geared toward the more advanced oil painting student. In the class the student will bring artwork already in progress and we will first have a group critique and then work on the paintings in class. This workshop will consist of demonstrations, instruction, group critiques and in class painting. Be prepared to work on the painting you bring with you. You can bring one painting or multiple paintings, depending on your needs. Because of limited space, preregistration is required.
